ARDA – Ambient Rigid Dielectric Apparatus

Designed for the electrical characterization of rigid, flat materials, providing a reliable and versatile fixture for impedance and dielectric measurements over a wide range of sample thicknesses and frequencies.

ARDA – Ambient Rigid Dielectric Apparatus

Compact. Shielded. Precise.

ARDA (Ambient Rigid Dielectric Apparatus) is a compact dielectric measurement cell for rigid, flat insulating materials up to 15 mm thickness. Designed in accordance with the measurement principles of ASTM D150, ARDA enables reliable dielectric measurements from ultra-low frequencies up to 100 MHz.

Its fully enclosed Faraday cage provides effective electromagnetic shielding for sensitive low-frequency measurements, while the guarded two-electrode design helps minimize unwanted surface and parasitic currents.

Measurement Performance

As a practical demonstration of the measurement capability of ARDA combined with Omega analyzer, an air capacitor of approximately 100 pF was measured inside ARDA.

The capacitor is formed using the 38 mm effective current-measuring electrode, corresponding to an electrode air gap of approximately 100 µm for an air dielectric. Before measurement, the air inside the ARDA measurement chamber was dried overnight to minimize the influence of moisture and humidity on the measurement.

This test demonstrates the actual measurement performance of the Omega when connected to the ARDA. The measured results demonstrate that the combined ARDA/Omega system can operate effectively at capacitance levels around 100 pF, extending practical measurement performance beyond what might be inferred from the nominal capacitance-range specification alone.
